These three patterns were some of the first that I made, hence the rather random style of them. At the time I was very much experimenting with some of the different things you could use, such as brushes and textures.
Black & White Ovals
I was idly doodling while on the phone when I drew a row of vertical ovals with little spots inside, a short while later I was making that same doodle in Inkscape. Making the design was easy enough but I remember doing the repeat was more fiddly, although I had been watching tutorials for Inkscape they mostly dealt with logos or motifs, not repeat patterns.
Before this the only other repeat I had made was my lolly pattern and I hadn’t even worked out how to remove the things outside the artboard on that one, this was a little simpler in that respect but I did go in one at a time and delete each partial oval and spot.
I know now there are better ways to do these things but back then I was very much a novice.
Paint Textured Geometric Pattern
This one came about during a power cut, using a book light, a small graph paper pad and some felt tip pens I did this design while trying to stem off the boredom.
When making the pattern though I decided to try adding a bit of texture by using one of the artisitic brushes on the stroke of each shape. I also overlayed a faint texture on the fill, still very much experimenting with different techniques at this time.

Ornamental Diamond Pattern
Yet another doodle in my little graph paper book. The end result differed somewhat from the doodle mind you.
This time I was playing about with the width tool and making my own profiles, I liked how the shape came out when applied to lines in a star pattern.
I was also experimenting with making pattern brushes which is how I did the border around each star.
