I like fish, for many years I had a tropical fish tank, mostly I kept the smaller fish like tetras and guppies but sometimes I had some more unusual fish, like upside down catfish.
One fish I never owned but would have liked is the Discus fish, and that was the basis for this pattern when I started designing it. I also knew I wanted to do something in a more Mid Century style because I just really like it, and along with cats they seem to be a recurring theme from what I have seen.
It’s the first time I’ve tried a more layered pattern, with the background being made of several shades and then plants and fish layered over it. Overall I’m very happy with how it turned out.

I took a bit of artistic license mixing fresh and saltwater fish, so we have a blue Discus, a stripey Butterfly Fish, some spotty Sardines and a more lime than Yellow Tang.
