Bugloss Floral Patterns

Now that Spring is here once again I found some inspiration from the Siberian Bugloss growing in the garden, it’s quite a pretty plant with its tiny blue flowers and variegated leaves.

Having recently been gifted an iPad and Apple Pencil this was also my first time creating a seamless pattern using both Procreate and Illustrator.

There are some good classes on Skillshare related to creating seamless patterns in Procreate itself but as I prefer vector patterns I chose to follow the method I learnt from this particular class.

Using Procreate with Illustrator to Enhance Your Vector Drawings

I gave my pattern more of a vine-like feel instead of the bushy look of the actual plant, and as I couldn’t choose between a light or dark background I kept both.

And to finish it off I made some coordinating patterns to go with them.

I really enjoyed this process and will definitely be using it again, for this particular design I wanted smooth lines so used the Studio Pen that comes with procreate as it’s similar to drawing with the blob brush in Illustrator, but I look forward to trying with some more textured brushes in the future.
